Windows 7: is anyone found the right codecs for all types???

Very true and a good point. But if VLC can't play it then probably not a codec I'd want on my system anyways

agreed... forever ago when I found out vlc played mov files I was in bliss, cause I hate quicktime, I hate installing it, I hate the way it looks etc. VLC is the best...

sorry guys,
some of the files seems to be crrupted , don't know why. they're sitting in my WesternDigital MyBook , worked flawlessly on my earlier XP and now i can't play them on my other PCis with vista and XP.

That would explain it. Sorry for the data corruption, that's a bummer...

Take a look at the last modified date of the videos. Just curious if they are later than you'd expect. Some players will embed metadata in MKVs and if poorly written can corrupt the container.
