Best Video Format for MC7, Xbox Extender and Zune

I'm looking for one video codec and package that will play nicely on Windows 7 Media Center, Zune, and the Xbox 360 extender. I have original DVDs, and I'm able to convert them to whatever. What do you think?

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Just install the Shark007 Win7codecs.
On the Help TAB of the Settings Application, press the button to associate filetypes to the Windows players.
This will allow Media Center and the xbox to play almost all files.

Also be sure to use current releases from
Some older releases installed the Ask toolbar without asking the user to do so.

I want to stick with standard WIndows 7 setup

I don't want to install special codecs. I'm looking for a solution that works without addign any special codecs to the mix.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

If you encode your videos using:

MP4 Container
Video Codec: H264
Audio Codec: AAC

You will have a Video thats compatabile with Zune, WMP, and WMC with no codecs needed as Win7 supports these by default without issue.

(You could even use Xvid if you wanted to, but IMHO, x264 is far superior and worth using over Xvid.)

I prefer the Nero AAC encoder to convert AC3/DTS to AAC when encoding DVD. It gives a very good quality result IMHO.
This requires the Nero encoder, which is free and does not need to be installed. But your vide encoder will need to be able to support it as well.
Just drop the Nero encoder in the folder, point your encoder to it, and tell it to use it for encoding AAC.
