Sending Dolby Digital signals to external reciever?

It doesn't appear to work. I play a DVD or file which has a Dolby 5.1 soundtrack and it seems to want to decode it BEFORE sending it to my receiver.

I have set the speakers to be connected by coaxial (digital) in the speaker settings of 7MC. Other media players (Zoom Player, PowerDVD) work fine with my receiver, outputting Dolby Digital fine. Why does 7MC not?

    Thanks.

What other decoders do you have installed? If you have ffdshow installed and configured make sure to disable the audio mixer.

I have AC3Filter, FFDshow and the Cyberlink PowerDVD codecs installed.

Disable the audio mixer? Which audio mixer?

Edit: Oh you mean the audio mixer in FFDshow settings? I just disabled that now. Still not doing AC3 through my receiver though.

If ur using optical out of ur soundcard you have to choose 2 channel out in W7. and let ur reciever upmix to 5.1.

Hi m8, I setup AC3Filter to pass all Dolby Digital and DTS through the SPDIF Optical to my receiver which decodes it for me, unless you have a Sound card that decodes DD and DTS which I no my Realtek HD doesn't so pass all of that to my receiver.

Your system specs show you using a Audigy 2 ZS Platinum. Does this has a S/PDIF output connection (either coaxial or optical?)

My media center PC has Realtek 888 HD or something like that with a S/PDIF header on the motherboard. In W7 under my audio devices I choose the S/PDIF output as my default output device and plug that into the coaxial header bracket to my receiver. When I use the sound card control panel I'm able to test AC3 and DTS which works properly and let's me know the system, sound card and receiver are all working properly and passing the signal.

In order to pass that information from other applications I use FFDShow and configured it to passthrough those streams and this works fine. It boils down to your output device and whether or not it support sending those formats. The FFDShow is doing it for my media center and WMP. PowerDVD will do it depending on your default output device.

I have done so too. But it appears 7MC is not using AC3Filter.

The problem is not that the SPDIF is not working. It works fine outside 7MC. I can view movies with Dolby Digital being sent out of Coaxial to my receiver, DTS and Dolby test fine, it's just 7MC which is the problem.

If it was a problem with Windows 7 I would not be posting in the Media Center forum. It is only an issue with Media Center. SPDIF out works fine with other programs and codecs.

    Any ideas?
