WMC Black Screen of Death following upgrade to nvidia 285.62 driver

    Hi
Run into a problem with Windows Media Centre, which from looking at the posts on this useful site many others have also experienced - but it's new for me.

Just updated my nvidia card to the latest WHQL driver (285.62) - and find that Windows Media Centre now only shows a black screen when playing realtime TV or recorded TV programmes. I can hear the sound track but no video shows. Everything else works fine - and so I'm not sure this is related to the new nvidia driver.

I know that the recorded tv files have content as the listing in WMC dispays a thumbnail image - but that's as much as I get!

I've tested connections and followed instructions on the Windows Support Forum to disable WMC, reboot and then re-enable WMC. That didn't work - and neither did re-scannng the transponder and setting WMC up again.

The problem is definitely just related to WMC as the WinTV 7 (latest version and drivers - 2.4c) works fine. I just prefer WMC - help!

I attach the output from the jcgriff diagnostic program, together with the perfmon report.

I see an error relating to IOCBIOS, which surprises me as I've never overclocked my graphics card and don't intend to. I've tried deleting that service but it persists. Not sure if that's related to the BSOD, either, Also, it's not picked up that I use McAfee at the moment for my virus protection

Hope you can help - thanks in advance

Can't really help you but I have the same problem, have rolled back the drivers to 266.58 an everything OK with WMC now.
I only updated the drivers because Microsoft FSX flight simulator would occasionally go black screen, either in full screen or windowed or the graphics would scramble.

There are already many reports of this since the drivers were released just yesterday. It's not a problem in the most recent 285.38 beta drivers.

    Thanks - spot-on advice:)

Reverting to the earlier beta driver fixed this problem on this particular PC.

Odd, though, to find that my three other PCs - all running same OS but different processor/graphics card mixes - have not thrown the same fault when upgrading to the 285.62 driver.

Keeps me in business as the IT helpdesk at home, I suppose!

    Thanks again

I've upgraded the GeForce 8500 GT to 285.62, but still the black screen on Live TV. You can see the ticker on the show running, but no sound or picture. Recorded pgms not a problem. Any ideas?

I had the same problem, but have an interesting addition:
    - I originally had a 9400 card in the system and the 285.62 drivers worked fine with it.
    - I then upgraded to a GT520 card and got the black screen problem. Reverting to the 280.xx drivers fixed it.

I confirm that downgrading to 280.xx or 27x.xx fix the problem.
I had the same issue and i solved reinstalling old drivers.
