Recent items does not show recent mp3's

    Hi there.

I have recently installed Windows 7 RC and was happily using the recent items to access a particular mp3 I use often. Now, for some reason, Recent Items on the Start Menu only seems to display links to documents and saved web pages. It will not store the mp3 I use or any piece of music for that matter. I'm assuming it won't display media items in general.

I've searched for a way to customize this with no success.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Happened to me on Windows 7 x64 professional PL RTM now. Initially, it was working fine, now no mp3s are ever registered as recent items.

For example, Windows Media Player will register avi files and show them in the recent items list, but not mp3s.

Initially I thought it was a problem with the winamp taskbar integration plugin, as I was using winamp primarily, but then I realized that the arrow right of the winamp shortcut in the start menu opens nothing. Other file types work fine, just not mp3s.

Interestingly enough, links to opened MP3 files are present in the C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent folder. They just aren't attached to the programs using them for some reason.

PS. If I activate the old-style recent items menu, the mp3s show up there, but they still don't show up for neither winamp nor windows media player.

My OS is Windows 7 x64 Professional PL.

Interestingly enough, Windows Media Player has avi files in its recent items list despite that these files aren't stored in the recent items folder.

Ah, fixed by removing the recently played files folder. Now, though, the recently played MP3 appears only in the Windows 7 taskbar integration plugin for Winamp, in the right-click menu for Winamp's taskbar icon. The black arrow to the right of winamp's entry in the program list disappeared, and mp3s still don't appear in WMP's history.

PS. Interestingly enough, .avis opened in winamp, despite the default player being WMP, appear in winamp the plugin's recently opened files list... Again twice.

Having this problem too in Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit (final release all updates applied).

Other posts on the net seemed to indicate it could be something to do with context menus/shell extensions, but even with those (non-Microsoft) ones now disabled, still no MP3s showing in Media Player's jump list of Recent Items on the Start Menu

I have not had much luck finding recently played mp3 files; I've tried various solutions given in multiple forums on the web...

I did want to add a comment on this thread; The older version of WMP in Windows XP was much simpler to load a recently played mp3 (in my opinion). A simple right click in the menu area of WMP, click file, and there was the list...

I wonder why they took that away
