The x64 components would give you thumbnails (FLV, MKV etc) and also enable the Preview Pane in windows explorer views. For these features to be 'active' you need to open the 64bit settings application as an admin and set FFDshow for H264 decoding.
If the above does not interest you, you do not need the x64Components addon.
I have a question. I installed the codecs but HD videos still appear pixelized. It's a new laptop, with graphics card NVIDIA GeForce 310M. People suggested this codec pack but it made no difference. What settings should I change/choose in order to make it work?
Since your operating system is 64bit, you'll need to install the Win7codecs 1st followed by the x64Components addon.
Each installation places a Settings Application to your start menu ..... All Programs\Shark007 Codecs
Open each application using a rightclick on the shortcut and choose 'Run as administrator'
and at the bottom of each application, choose to use the SUGGESTED settings.
[QUOTE=bloodsugar;1111740]it is possible that your issue is related to DirectX.
Install this update
Installed. It made no difference either.
For some people, choosing to disable UAC can cause weird issues like this. If you have disabled UAC, I suggest that you uninstall the codecs, re-enable UAC, reboot your system and then re-install the codecs.
