avoid shark007 - sneaky Ask toolbar installation

Until not too long ago, I'd have agreed that the shark007 pack was one of the best codec packs. But now the Ask toolbar installation is snuck-in in there. You dont't have a choice of NOT installing it during the installation - you're only informed of the Ask toolbar being installed through the EULA. Hands up if you read the EULA's all the time?

    From the horses mouth here:
    Ask Toolbar installations.

So, I suggest you go with k-lite and not this spyware-ridden crap.

The installer is currently being modified to make the Ask toolbar an 'Opt out' option.
This will commence with the release of version 283.

Disable the DivX MF splitter on the MKV TAB (provides mkv thumbnail support)

A poorly constructed (or partially downloaded) MKV is causing the crash when Windows attempts to thumbnail it. If you run that MKV through Metafox, (available from my tools page) it will repair that MKV and allow it to be properly thumbed. (or maybe its just trash and needs to be deleted)

I also have W7 x64 and the Shark007 codecs work just fine for me -> http://shark007.net/x64components.html

Don't forget to install the 32bit codec package first!

I'd think that would be about right on a 64-bit system. But having said that, I have six files named WMPlayer.exe on the System Drive. These appear to be three different versions but I only get one version when I launch WMP. No idea what that is all about but as long as the player is working, I don't really care.

I was reading this yesterday and I ended up installing K-Lite Full codec pack, wow, I wish I knew this before! It's pretty awesome to play .mkvs in WMP 12! Also, I noticed that Live Movie Maker 2011 seems to accept more file formats too.
