Xbox 360 MC Extender freezes on browsing depending on capacity of fold

    Hi there,

I have windows 7 ultimate, 64 along with the older style 360, not the refreshed quieter design.

I have Media center setup, with the xbox as the extender. Xbox is hardwired into the router, my laptop serves as the storage device with the movies and it is wireless networked to the router.

after media lookup, I noticed that certain files pop up under the movies category while some pop up under videos. The folders can even be the same (Ive tried both)

the difference is, in the videos folder. (Ive backed up old dvd's of mine into different formats, some straight rips, some converted into different formats) I keep them stored in my videos folder on the laptop,

Now, at a certain capacity (I havent figured it out exactly) freezes on the extender.

If I remove a few files from that videos folder, it works fine. Not specific files either, just any random ones. Add them back in, I go into the xbox, the media center, go to videos folder, there is a sudden lag, then the folder opens, and I cannot scroll to any of the items, every now and then it will hiccup and let me move once or twice, then freezes, and I get the connection interrupted message.

If I remove the extender on my laptop, and add it back on, for the first time, albeit slugishly, it will work, but after reboot of xbox, the previous problem repeats.

I have tried removing and readding the extender (xbox), I have tried the turn windows features on or off to get rid of MC on my laptop and then turn it back on and setup everything from scratch.

    any advice on this?

    Thanks

I would probably try putting the files in several smaller size folders. That way the extender does not have to query the metada for all the video files at once.
