Trying to burn DVD....stuck at 0.2% encoded

I insert a blank dvd and follow instructions to burn a DVD and this is what I get. It's been like that for hours. Will it every encode? or whatever?
    Sure would appreciate any help.
I hope I asked this in the right forum. Mods move if necessary.
    Thanks.

What are you trying to burn? It should not hang there for that long.

OK. I'm trying it. It says encoding...right now 4%. Does that means it's recording or just preparing the disk?

its prepares the files, then burns them onto the disc. On my Set up it, runs anywhere from 30-45 minutes. Depending on the size of the file.

OK. This is what I got. When I click 'close', shown on the first pic I get a screen like the 2nd pic and I can't figure out what to do next. I've tried clicking all the menu items above.
I really appreciate your help for a total noob on this. :)
