WMC does not play protected content through Dell HDMI port

    Hi,

I recorded premium channel movies on a Dell Inspiron n5110 laptop.
I used a SiliconDust HD Home Rum CableCard tuner.
The movies play fine on the laptop screen.
When I plug in into the TV via it's HDMI port, it does not play back the premium channels recordings.
    This is the message.
"Display Driver Error - The video playback device does not support playback of protected content."

    Please help.

    Thanks.

most likely you just need to update the graphics drivers from Intel.com

I tried to do a driver update via the Intel HD application in the lower right corner. It sends me to some Java aplet page which said that the display driver is custom or something like that. Do you think that Dell maybe makes their own laptop display drivers and messes it up? Maybe they don't have "liscenses" to play over HDMI in contrast to like if you build your own desktop with a Core i3?

I have a desktop that has an Intel Core i5 (which should be similar but just faster right?) and I can use the DVI port on my motherboard as well as the hdmi port on an nVida 9600 GPU card.

He posted this on another forum, and I recommended he try opening WMC on the laptop screen and then drag it to the other screen (or it might have been the other way around, I don't remember). Playback worked when he did that.

haha, yeah thanks. :) I tried it with both the Start Menu on the laptop AND the Start Menu on the TV, and both ways worked.
