I rebuilt the WMP library by stopping the sharing service, deleting the db files in appdata\microsoft\media player, restarted the service and then restarted WMP. Great. Works... except when I reboot... then it just shows a WMP blank screen and nothing comes up.
Found this file at Microsoft and it fixed it... except screen saver won't work whenever WMC or WMP is on... I forget the solution to that problem. I'll leave this up for people with the same problem. The file is called MicrosoftFixit.WinMediaPlayer.LB.137285672683197942.5.1.Run
And now that works too. Media Player settings, options, tick box that allows screen saver during player :)
