go to "Windows Media" on your left menu and click on the first "Fix". solved my issue right away

Having myself had the server execution error, I did some thinking and searching around, and the whole bit on restarting WMP 12, is pointless and a waist of time. For me, not saying it will work for everyone, though my best bet for sure would be to check your antivirus software. I downloaded avast anti not too long ago, and it ran a virus scan.. Right after that. I could no longer use my WMP. I removed the antivirus and reinstalled it, and everything has been working just fine.
