The first thing I do is reconnect my security programs. WMP is not on my re/uninstall list or default programs for Microsoft.

Have you tried to download VLC with another browser?

When did you have WMP on your comp?

A System Restore to just before should bring it back.

I had WMP until just before I started this discussion. I already tried system restore but WMP is completely gone. If I could just get to the proper Microsoft page to down load the program, that would be great.

I am also prepared to do a destructive recovery (shudder) if needed.

I will put the VLC on the back burner until I resolve this issue with getting WMP back.

Anne, please type in Windows Media Player in the Start Box.
Does anything show on the very top?

"No items match your search" is all she wrote.

What exactly did you do to uninstall WMP?

Anne, your title says Window Media Center , not WMP.

Is Media Center what you are missing?

Look at post #5 - what do you see when you open that box?

Please post a pic of the box.

    Hello PSCO,

I found my fix and I will share it with you.

I went to another forum and I was told what to do (below in black) and it worked.

    1. Click on Start (bottom left) then Control Panel.
    2. Click on Programs and Features.
    3. On left hand side of screen, click on "Turn Windows features on or off".
    4. Find the entry called Media Features and expand it using the + symbol.
    5. Tick the box for Windows Media Player.
    6. Click OK.
    7. Restart your PC.

I think I will post the VLC download query in a different thread. Thanks for all of your help!
