Figured out what the problem was. I had AP Isolation turned on, which disallows two wireless clients connected to the same network to communicate with one another. Disabling AP Isolation on my router did the trick.

My problem now is the fact that WMC does not work well with Xbox 360. I'm assuming since both pieces are connecting wirelessly, sharing massive amounts of data (pictures, music etc...) over a wireless connection, Xbox 360 is not happy. I'm gettin all kinds of connect/reconnect issues with xbox 360 to my WMC PC. I don't think this will work out unless I go wired.

thanks for the tip. However it looks like I am flogging a dead horse here. Once again media centre configs pc, searches for extender then at step 3 trips up. As the pc attempts to config the extender the xbox once more trys and fails to go on live to allow a "needed update for this software"
This is not going to work.
    Thanks anyway everyone.
Can someone help me with this? I'm having this same exact problem, and my console isn't modded, nor do I have Live/broadband. I've done pretty much everything mentioned so far, but to no avail. The extender works with XP MCE and Vista, but I simply can't get it to Work in Windows 7. I'm using a crossover cable from the PC directly to the 360.

The main reason I'm wanting this to work with W7 is because pretty much everything in my PC works so much better in W7...especially my tv capture/tuner card and W7 is simply more stable for me than Vista ever has been.

    Thanks for any advice/help.

    There is hope....

The 360 holds media center info in the settings portion of the dashboard. You have to navigate to the games folder and look for any related media center information. I'm not at home to see the actual procedure but wanted to comment because I think this might be causing trouble for some folks. I will repost when I get back to my system...have hope folks...

I have now got a new xbox. My account is now active again. I was thus able to download the Windows 7 update and it is working fine now.
It does seem that you need a live account to use Windows 7.

I think you're right about the Live account thing.

I reinstalled W7 today and fixed many of the issues I was having. I can finally stream to the 360, but I still have that same issue while trying to use it to connect to Media Center.
