Trying to setup Media Center with Xbox360

Alright, I'm trying to configure the extender with Media Center on Windows 7. I think I'm getting to the 2nd step where it says it's trying to configure my extender but that is as far as I get.

    "Unable to Find Extender".

Not sure if there's an issue with my Network settings. Xbox is connected to the same network as my Windows 7 computer.

This is my first time using Media Center/Xbox 360. Any info is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Still a no go on this.

From reading other posts, others are able to connect their extender with their Windows 7 media center but I am not sure if their extender is an xbox 360.

    Thoughts?

I am also unable to connect to my xbox360. When media centre is at the "configuring your extender" step my xbox trys to access xbox live. As I do not have this I am unable to proceed.
Do I therefore need an update from Microsoft to use WMC 7? If so how can I install this without live? Media sharing is set up and working fine with Windows 7 and the xbox360.

it should work automatically... if your running a firewall disable it, or forward the proper ports, the windows firewall automatically does this im pretty sure.

I have installed vista in a new partition. I am now able to use wmc with my xbox. The xbox says it is reverting to an older program. The problem stems from being unable to go online with my xbox (it's banned).the solutions are to buy a new xbox or to use media player to stream using windows 7.
Unless anyone knows where I can download the windows 7 update for the xbox?

dont believe there is an update for windows 7 media center on the xbox, mine never updated it just connected.

i know this because my internet was disconnected from the computer when i set all of it up for testing.

but if your xbox is banned from xbox live do you have the NXE atleast? that could be the problem.

this is the link for the NXE update, if you dont have it already download it, unzip the files then burn them to the root directory of a cd or dvd, put it in the xbox turn it off and on again and it will automatically update.

Thanks for the reply. I was banned before the update so I will give it a go. Won't I loose the ability to play divx though ( as the update needs reinstallng from xbox live).

the update doesnt require to be reinstalled from live, you shouldnt lose any thing.

I have installed the NXE. However the problem persists!
Again after entering the number into media center there is an error at step 3 ( configuring your extender ). At this point my xbox trys to log onto live, to download some needed file. As I am banned an error occurs at this point.

If you were not online when you set up media centre you must have downloaded this file at some other point. So unless I can get this update no mce7 . Unfortunatly I need to keep my dual boot to use Vista.

    Any further suggestions, thanks.
