looking for a SSD for my HTPC

Intel, Kingston, Samsung? Looking for a small drive to hold the OS and small programs related to HTPC stuff. Is 80GB to small? 120GB or 250GB too big?

80 can be just fine depending on what programs you plan to put on it. Mine is 80, of which only 35 is occupied---Windows and about 55 applications.

For an HTPC alone, I'd think 80 would be plenty, but you are the judge of how big your programs are. Windows alone, fully updated, takes about 20 GB.

I've got an Intel. They tend to be more expensive than most, but are highly reliable. If buying today, I'd probably get a Crucial MX100 or a Samsung 840 EVO.

That's fine. That's not a particularly good price for it.

It's often found at 80 and occasionally for 70, but if you need it now, go ahead.

The Crucial is 80 right now and it's 128 GB.

But they are both good choices.

Thanks. I presently have four 1TB drives for storage. The OS is currently installed on one of the four drives. I wanted to have the OS on the SSD and the four WD 1TB Black drives just for storage.
I thought it would help with the issue I'm having. At certain times when I'm in Windows Media Player I get very bad lag where the computer isn't even usable and I have to C-A-D to restart it. I have a good CPU and (16GB, I think) memory. I don't have the specs at hand because the computer is on the kitchen table waiting for me to fix this issue.

Hmmmm.....hate to see you get the SSD purely on speculation that it would solve your issue. SSDs are great and I wouldn't be without one on an ordinary desktop PC. But you are talking about an HTPC and possibly unique circumstances that might not apply to an ordinary desktop.

You might want to start a thread on the issue and see if others can give you some ideas other than to spend 90 bucks with no clearcut reason to believe the SSD would resolve the problem.

Lagging can be caused by lots of things.

I'll have to get it running again (re-doing the wires on my TV stand) and post in the HTPC thread. Hopefully this weekend.
