Can watch, but not record certain OTA channels on WMC 64 bit

Using Windows 7 Home Premium Media Center, certain over the air channels won't record. The channels can be watched just fine, but if they are scheduled to record, or if manually try to record, the WMC screen goes blank and an error message appears stating, "Service Unavailable There is currently no TV signal detected for this channel. The channel may be temporarily off the air. Try again later." However, if the recording is canceled, within a few seconds the channel will display properly again.

Am using two AverMedia USB M039 hybrid ATSC tuners with the latest drivers.

(The problem seems to be tied to the guide somehow. The channels used to not show up with any info in the guide [detected in setup, though], but could be watched and recorded (had to manually set the time and channel). Then, WMC updated the guide listings, but somehow had the channel settings fouled up so that the channels didn't work at all. Now, the channels work, and the program info appears correctly in the guide, but they won't record.)

Update--When editing the channels that won't record and selecting "Edit Sources", there are 4 sources listed for each channel instead of 2 (there are only 2 tuners)--evidently WMC has invalid channel info as only 2 of the sources work. All channels show this duplication, but only certain channels have the invalid info.

Is there a way to completely wipe out all the settings on channels so the invalid channel settings don't appear?

    Found this useful

I was having this problem on two separate machines (win7 32 and win7 64) on one particular channel I was wanting to record. The station played fine on live TV, but whenever I wanted to record I got the "could not find signal" error.

    Went to Tasks/Settings/TV/Guide/Edit Channels

Clicked on the channel in question, then on Edit Sources

Just as the above person found (and Thank You for posting this, I tried for days to figure this out) there were multiple channel sources for this one station. I suppose they changed at some point and WMC picked up both versions. It was then a matter of eliminating the one(s) that did not work. Now everything is just peachy.

I can't imagine why WMC would pick different sources live vs. recording, and shame on Microsoft for not making this solution clearer for those of us having problems. This is the one place I found that had the solution to this difficulty.

Thanks a lot!!! It worked like a charm.

I just did a fresh install from Win732bit to Win764bit -- same TV card. Suddenly one channel won't record, but I can watch it live, like you said.

I right clicked the channel in the Guide, chose Edit, and Edit Source in the following page. I unchecked one of the sources listed, tried it -- no good. When I selected the other source all was peaches-and-cream!

    Thanks again.

Hdjunkie, if you mind me asking, where are you getting Discovery from? Would love to add premium content to WMC but assumed it wasn't possible and would ultimately be the reason I abandon WMC when the kids get older?
