Windows Media Player Video Playback from I Phone

When I play a video sent to me , taken with an I Phone it always plays back either upside down or sideways. How do I rotate the video to my liking ?
    Thanks

VLC player (free) can rotate a video 90 deg, 180 deg, flip horizontal etc. Go to Tools, Effects and Filters, Geometry - see pic

a more permanent rotate would prob require recoding

With Movie Maker, you can permanently rotate it.

Does the Movie Maker method require a recode ?

Yes. .mov input does not work too well. Output will be either .mp4 or .wmp. But for such an operation you should always expect a recode.
