Windows 7: WMC no longer waking up PC for scheduled recording

WMC no longer waking up PC for scheduled recording

Been running Windows 7 using Hauppauge 2250 dual tuner for several years - 4 maybe - with
no problems. It does ( well it DID do ) everything I need.
Recently however, it failed to record a program when the PC was in 'sleep' mode and since that time
it will not wake the PC in order to record a scheduled program.
If the PC is 'on' all goes well but I cannot get it 'wake up' the PC in order to record.
I have changed nothing, there have been no lightning strikes, no magic smoke escaping from any of the equipment, no software installed / updated or other changes ( This particular PC was built to watch television/movies/tapes/cd's/DVD's and very little else ) - nothing unusual has taken place that I am aware of - this simply started happening and it is consistent -
PC sleeping -no recording
PC awake - records just fine

Any ideas ??

2nd item ( which I'm beginning to suspect may be related to the above item - possibly involving
something in the myriad of interconnecting, duplicate and incredibly varied 'settings' scattered
about the bowels of Windows !!

If the PC is rebooted from powered off state, I have to go back into WMC general settings
and reconfigure my speakers ( mini-plug and 5.1 surround ) or there is no sound at all
from WMC recording or live television !!!
This happens whenever the PC is shutdown and brought back up !!

Again, any ideas ???

Thanks in Advance for any assistance.

Any time you change anything, you run the risk of things not working correctly or at all. In this case, the change is that the computer goes from a working state (on) to a non-working state (sleep), and you can't get it to go back to the working state.

So my suggestion therefore is to leave it up and running all the time. In that way, it's always ready to go.

Sorry, but perhaps I stated the situation incorrectly.
2nd try -
This bloody thing has been working just fine for over 4 years - waking from sleep to record whenever something was scheduled to record.
No problems, no issues.
It suddenly, without warning notification or anything else stopped doing that.
Something changed and it is not something I changed.

I know I can leave the thing running all the time. That's what I'm trying to avoid and was able to do so for about 4
years without any issues.

I'm trying to figure out, where in the bowels of Windows, something needs to be 'changed back' to what it was, or a driver needs to be reinstalled because it became 'corrupted' ( HOW does that happen ?) or some other vague generically named 'setting' 38 levels deep has been 'updated' by something I didn't even know about !

Speaking from more years experience than I care to think about, if computers going as far back as the 1960's had the kind
of error recovery, trouble shooting procedures, and error determination procedures ( codes ,manuals etc.) that are still the norm for PC's today ( when all else fails, reboot ( re-IPL) or reintstall your operating system and hope that fixes it !!) computers would still be a novelty behind glass windows using punched cards and impact printers!!

I understood what you said.

The reason I gave the answer I did is because it is the quickest and easiest fix. Sometimes Windows issues such as this are not easy to fix, and it sounds like you've been pulling your hair out over this one.

My "solution" doesn't fix the "sleep" problem; but it's one way to be back up and running right now.

Dunno if the advice you were given 5 years ago is what solved the problem ? but that's where I'd start

Not sure on the second problem but have you run an Admin CMD of sfc /scannow ?
