WMC - cannot find channels / odd behaviour

Hi,

Running Windows Media Centre on a Win 7 Acer Revo - TV Card is a USB ASUS U3100.

If I install the Windows 7 drivers for the card - the channels are found, and all works fine until...

1) I close windows media centre and reopen (it then can't find signal / channels)
2) I enter sleep or hibernate and rewake (as above)
3) I hit the "Stop" button in live TV, then select any channel (as above).
If I kill the ehrecvr.exe service - it then works again.

If I use Vista or XP drivers - these problems go away, however.....

If I change channel more than twice (doesn't matter which channels) - I get black screens. f I change back to the original 2 channels - they work.

Any ideas? It's driving me nuts!!

In BIOS, turn off USB legacy support (USB 1.0), set USB Speed to 480 Mbps (USB 2.0) and turn off any power setting that allows any form of sleep/standby/hibernation. You will need to make sure no attached USB devices are USB 1.0 - because most systems only have one USB Hub, it will run at USB 1.0 speeds when a USB 1.0 device is attached thus affecting the overall speed of your USB Hub and all other attached devices.

Disabled legacy support for USB in bios - have no usb1.0 devices connected.

The Revo came with Vista basic, and I then installed a free update supplied by Acer to Windows 7. The Chipset support Cuda GPU acceleration - so as far as playing HD media, it's fine. Infact , playing TV Channels etc is fine (outside the original issues reported).

As far as I'm aware (ie - I've downloaded the drivers from ASUS), it's 7 compatable.

Sorry for being thick - how would I guage the USB speed? Nothing I could see in the Bios stated it, other than "Disable Legacy".

Sleep modes were disabled.

If you live in Europe and have an antenna that supports DVB-T channels, the scan by Windows Media Center might have identified channels that you do not receive. Reviewing your system spec's should point out whether your USB hub(s) are 2.0 only, 2.0/1.0 or just 1.0...as this system is newer, I am sure it is not the latter, it is not the first as the disable legacy is available, so we have only one option left. Typically, a supporting BIOS would allow you to force the speed on this hub (for example if you know you only use USB 2.0 devices). Review your manual for this.

My main concern is that your system has a common cpu/chipset installed in many newer laptops. While the manufacturer claims that it 'supports' Windows (Vista) 7 Premium +, I would ask Acer why then did they ship it with only Vista Basic (the OS for lower end hardware) and for a full clarification of what they mean by 'supports'.
The minimum system requirements have not changed from Vista to Windows 7.

Alot of people think that Recorded TV is just the same as playing a DVD or video. It is not - there is much more going on with Recorded TV.

What is your geographical location/country?

Are you using an external USB DVD?

Have you installed any software that came with the USB TV Tuner and also have you installed any codec packs? Are they installed now?

I would remove all third party apps associated with your TV Tuner, uninstall the TV Tuner drivers, shut down, unplug the TV Tuner, start up, login, plug the USB TV Tuner in, let Windows install the drivers for it, rerun WMC setup from the beginning and report back.

Uninstalling all drivers, rebooting and plugging in the TV stick resulted in Windows not finding a driver, and the TV Stick showing as a yellow cross / unknown in device manager.

No extra software or codecs installed - this is a fresh Windows 7 install with nothing on it.

Just to re-iterate. I can record and watch TV on this device with no problems (other than reported in original post).

I'll experiment on another windows 7 machine this weekend and see if I get similar problems.
