Right click on the file then choose to open with Media Player. It will look like this:

I downloaded Shark, it has the same interface as ffdshow. I could not get mine to work. Anyone have the setup instructions? Otherwise, Real Player works great. I'm surprised at Microsoft, not including codecs for flv files. There are many players out there that have them, RP, VLC, mediaplayer... what's up with you MS?

    Hello Mr. Shark!

I finally got around to installing this package.

During installation, there was the note to make sure all other codecs were removed before installing. With that window open, I looked into my list of installed programs, and saw I had nothing else installed. So, I clicked OK, and kept going, accepting all of the defaults on the Install Shield installer.

While installing the Win7codecs package, I got this message box:
    Code:
    MessageBox.Show(
    this,
"Error 2755.Server returned unexpected error 1624 attempting to install package C:\ProgramData\Win7codecs\{E6729CEA-D699-4337-A079-47EB8DCC846E}\Win7codes.msi.",
    "Win7codecs Installer Information",
    MessageBoxIcon.Information,
    MessageBoxButton.OK
    );
I looked up the Windows Installer Error Codes and found this:
    Code:
    1624
    ERROR_INSTALL_TRANSFORM_FAILURE
There was an error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid.
Any idea how to fix this?

    I'm on 64-bit Win7, if that helps.

jp2code: Try a google search. Also, for everyone, I found another codec that works great, K-Lite Codec Pack 6.1.0. My WMP is working great with very little fuss.

Although I am not a big codec package fan (I prefer to use VLC or Media Player Classic), I can confirm that K-Lite works with WMP and .flv. Just right click on the .flv file, go to Properties and change the "Open with" to WMP.

    Hi Fred,

I found this site: Download K-Lite Codec Pack

Now my confusion is, for my 64-bit Win 7 machine, should I get:
    • Basic
    • Standard
    • Full
    • Mega
    • Corporate (don't really see a need for this)
    • 64-bit

The 64-bit looked like the obvious choice, but it also says this:

For an optimal user experience it is highly recommended to also install one of the 32-bit variants from above, because most software that runs on 64-bit versions of Windows is still 32-bit.

Windows Vista x64 and Windows 7 x64 use a 32-bit version of Windows Media Player by default. Windows Media Center and Windows Explorer are 64-bit applications. That is why you need both 32-bit and 64-bit codecs.
