Does anyone know if Microsoft plans to add native .mkv support?

@jketch - I don't believe so, at least not in the foreseeable future.

@Falko77 - I also think Sharks Codec Pack is the best out there, and I was able to use .srt subs in WMC under Vista (64bit). I have yet to try in the latest builds but I'm positive that srt subs are supported by WMC.
I'll see if I can't get one going later but I'm also having an MC issue I'm trying to solve ATM, so I'll post the subs results when I can fo you. Not really sure I have a movie with an .srt sub available right now tho...have to look.

I'm using the Shark007 codec pack with WMP in build 7000 and it's flawless.

    srt subtitles

    Hello,
I found a solution that worked for me.
    rename the files
    C>windows>system32
    MP4SDECD.DLL
    MP43DECD.DLL
    MPG4DECD.DLL

I found my solution over at our sister site, Vistax64.com - it is a simple registry addition so that WMC knows to look for .MKV files.

But I am in the same boat as Falco - I can watch them now in WMC, but I still cannot get subs. And in WiMP they have subs just fine.
