media center and IR blaster vs IR receiver
Hello, I am now the new owner of a Windows 7 PC. I have a Pinnacle 800i Tuner card installed and have Verizon FIOS. I have discovered that I need a STB to make the tuner card work cause of the FIOS. OK, I can deal with that. So I have my tuner card, STB and I try activating the TV option in WMC7. I get stalled at the "IR Receiver not located" screen. OK, so I start researching IR receivers all to find out there are receivers, transmitters and blasters. What exactly am I supppsed to get? There is a IR port on the back of the STB box which is a QIP2500-3.
Just a note, the Pinnacle 800i came with an IR receiver that plugs into the card, but I am assuming WMC7 see's the STB not the tuner card and that is why it is asking for another IR receiver. Correct? |

The answer is both. The instructions for setup should be included with your device.

IR blaster for the STB
Hello, Thank you for responding. I read the link you sent and I see they state I need a blaster not receiver. I have a receiver for the tuner card, but I am thinking I must need a blaster for the STB, right?
I only have the FIOS STB remote, do I need a blaster and WMC remote or will the STB remote work? I've seen people selling just remotes, just IR cables and both packaged together. I just don't want to buy the wrong thing and them not letting me return it should it be wrong. Thanks |

one additional note
Verizon FIOS provides you with little to no support when it comes to hooking up their STB boxes to your PC, they keep referring me back to the manufacturer who then refers me back to FIOS.
There were no instructions when it comes to the STB box, so that is why I am lost. The Pinnacle 800i card did come with TV Center Pro, but when I use that software program, the guide does not download so it's sort of pointless if you want to record upcoming shows. I think the FIOS box interferes with the tuner card. Again no support from either company cause I am using 2 different sources. |

The IR Receiver receives signals from your WMC compatable remote, which replaces the remote that came with your STB.
The IR Blaster sends signals to your STB. The source for setup information is the manufacturer of your TV Tuner, not the manufacturer of your STB or Cable Provider. |
