I was browsing around some other forums and I figured out why the box wasn't working. STBs output the signal as analog, not digital. Since the card I have is digital, it didn't pick anything up.

When I bypassed the STB, I got many clearQAM channels, but all of the premium channels that I pay for were not included; they are all encrypted.

There is one card I could buy which would allow me to see all my channels, but none in HD, only 480i. The number one reason I wanted a tuner card was to get HD. So that's a no-go.

What I need is an ATI DCT or the new Ceton coming out on March 31st. Both are out of my price range, so I think I will just wait and see how the market goes.

I really appreciate everything, you guys were a really big help.

I gave up trying to get my STB HD/Digital channels as it appears that all you'll get is what the STB is tuned to at that particular moment. I used a splitter and now get the basic cable channels only.
WMC detected that I was in Canada and even suggested the cable provider for me so everything more or less set itself up.
Shame I can't figure out how to get everything the STB outputs without having to actually use it to tune.

In many cases, the Cable Provider requires you use an optional HD capable STB, which is true in my case using Comcast in the USA. It's just a higher end model with more capabilities. Dicsuss this with your Cable provider.

It is also important to note that an ATSC tuner is not the same as an NTSC tuner and that many dual tuners support both.

Search my posts for Hauppauge or Tuner for much more information.

I'm using an HD STB. I'll do some research, thanks.
