Hardware's got nothing to do with it. I tried that DVD on several other Win7 computers with the same result. As a matter of fact, as far as I recall, I have never been able to display CCs in WMC, be it Win7, Vista or whatnot, regardless of the computer I used. Up until now I thought that there's some setting that I just couldn't find, but now I am starting to think that it's just WMC: I think Microsoft has just neglected the possibility that one might want to display CCs for DVDs, given that most DVDs out there have subtitles. Well, there are many DVDs out there (esp TV shows) that don't have subtitles, but only CCs.

Can't believe that I'm the first one that noticed this! Have you ever managed to display CCs in WMC? (And by CC I mean Closed Captions, not subtitles!)
I read everything and couldn't help myself I had to register and write few word about this very entertaining discussion. Here is my reply to you Aqualung :

You are not the only one who notice this , it's very very bad and surprising that in windows 7 ( which is the best MS OS ever) Closed captioning don't work. What is really funny is that AngelProcesser has no idea what you are trying to explain , he doesn't even make a difference between Closed Captioning and Subtitles Menu. Instead he is asking you stupid questions hoping he will look knowledgeable it was very funny , but didn't solve the problem I was looking for solution as well .

Yes, I agree with hammerxp. It is obvious that AngelProcesser doesn't know the difference between closed captions & subtitles.

Unfortunately M$ still doesn't get this fixed in SP1.

I wonder if Microsoft also intentionally disabled the capability of transmitting Closed Caption information over the DLNA stream from WMC?
