I can't seem to find exactly the incident I was talking about(too old), but this is an intersting FAQ:
FCC Fact Sheet on Cable Signal Leakage
I have swapped my splitters, but haven't tested yet. I did notice that each of the outputs was rated at -7.5 db for all ports. I also noticed that my PC tuners and modem were on one of the -7db outputs on the 3 way splitter down stairs. So, between switching my first splitter to a double, and using the good triple at my computer, I expect to potentially see a difference.
Also, the splitters used by the cable company are available on ebay... They are the Extreme brand, the double is labeled BDS102H and the triple is labeled BDS103H.
I tried it, and it still failed to recognize any of the HD channels.
I took an extra step and disconnected everything at the computer end except for the tuner, and it still failed. In effect, this left only a 2 way splitter where the cable enters the basement. One branch plugged directly to my HD TV as usual, and the other plugged directly into my HD capable tuner on the PC. It still found no HD channels.
I guess about all I can do at this point is bring the computer down stairs to see if it works without a splitter (if it will reach) low enough.
In fact, if I remember correctly, when they installed the cable, they brought it into the garage, then connected a length of coax with a barrel connector to get into the basement. So, if I bring the system into my garage, I will be as close to the source as possible. Although, as I said, I had this working at one point with Vista (with the computer in the existing location), so I am beginning to think my HD stick went bad...
I probably won't have the opportunity to dig in any deeper for a while, but at least I have 2 tuners getting the analog signals...
Hey, it looks like the issue may be with your pinnacle stick and somebody found a solution. Check here, hope it helps you:
Pinnacle 801e SE USB Stick + MCE does... nothing.
I'll update here if I get any different results. I do have the latest driver, but I did not do the Media Center support piece... That might do the trick. At a minimum it is one more thing to remove from my list of potential issues.

Lil Darwin:
Which tuner is giving you the issue? Pinnacle, AverMedia, or both?
As for the AverMedia... its a combo so you do have a cable connected to both cable inputs on that card... right?
One is for Hi-Def Clear QAM, the other for regular def. Just making sure...
The Avermedia is a single connected, and it does NTSC and ATSC but not Clear QAM.
It is the Pinnacle 801e that I expect to get HD.
I am able to get analog signals on both.
