    WMC + Extender + XBOX 360 + .mp4 questions...

    Hey,
first time poster, been watching peoples experiences with WMC and the xbox with all different opinions and results.
Finally gave it a go and all is pretty well except for playing .mp4 files with 5.1 AAC audio (i know xbox does NOT natively support 5.1 AAC). It loads and buffers the movie and plays but the quality is crook!
I am currently using Shark 007 codecs with Divx MKV 7 preview etc.

Question is, can i somehow change the settings/or codec being used that seems to be transcoding the .mp4 5.1 AAC files in WMC so they are similar to their original looks/quality but now only being in 2.0 stereo ???
I noticed in Sharkys settings there are other options for different .mp4/h.264 codecs to use, default being Windows 7 native.

Other than that pretty happy with the setup, plays MKV fine and the rest.

    Cheers

I do not have any experience with the xbox360. I can only speak for PC playback.

On the SWAP TAB, if you choose to disable the Microsoft Video decoder,
MP4 files will use my codecs instead of the windows codecs, on the PC.
I have no idea if this has anything to do with what the xbox360 will do.

Also for MKV playback on the PC, there is a checkbox to disable the MKV preview (needed only for the xbox360) on the MKV TAB. Using that checkbox will return MKV playback on the PC, back to using my codecs allowing subtitles and other H264 options to be used. Of course, unchecking that box will re-instate the MKV Preview software for the xbox360.

And as always, the suggested settings box at the bottom of the interface is recommended.

    mmm new problem
ok, now WMC won't play anything at all, BUT WMP will play all files thrown at it using your codec pack.
I thought that they would share file playability, this used to be the case, not sure what happened though.
    ideas?

    thanks

I recently released new versions with updated 'suggested settings' which will probably help you out. Uninstall your current installations and install version 2.4.0 of the main installer and if you have x64, also install version 2.4.4 of the x64 Components.

updated, restarted, used suggested settings = no love.
But i recently changed my sound control settings that has apparently made video file errors for others also on thegreenbutton forums video error: files needed to display video are not installed or not working correctly. please restart media center and or restart the computer. - The Green Button in Media Center. I reverted back to old settings but nope, no go.
