Opening New Window Causing Media Centre Signal Loss

    Hi,

I've just built a media centre pc and installed Windows7 Ultimate x64. I'm experiencing signal loss on strong channels each time I open a new window over media centre. Otherwise the signal and channels run fine.

All drivers and updates are installed, pc is a decent spec using a KWorld TV Card, with an ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series Card and this system ran fine with Vista x86 but has this odd problem on 64 bit Windows7.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Is it a temporary signal loss, or a permanent one?

It's temporary, as soon as I close the other window or bring media centre back to the front it comes back almost immediately.

Update: This problem seems to occur only when i open a window to connect to the internet, e.g. IE or Firefox, P2P etc

I've noticed that when changing Media Center's focus ie 'unlocking' Fullscreen Mode, it temporarily loses the signal - but then again, it did the same for me in both Vista x86/x64 and does the same in Seven.

However, my signal always came back immediately.

Does the signal loss occur even when media center is running in Windowed mode?

I rarely use it in full screen mode so it's almost always in window mode. It does seem really glitchy compared to the one in Vista, i.e. it's restarted on me 3 times already today.

I'm not sure where to even begin to look for a solution as i'm pretty sure it's the media centre application itself.

I also get the same thing when I go from full screen mode to window mode, that's not really too much of a problem, but this constant signal loss is unbearable, as I quite often switch to open a website or do something else and the noise from the breaking signal and ultimate loss is really annoying.

TBH, I don't think it's MC itself as I've just quickly tested it myself in both fullscreen and windowed mode. In windowed mode, opening and closing browsers, explorer windows etc had zero impact on the signal.

Again, the only pause I had was when transitioning from full screen to windowed mode and back again.

As to the culprit - I would be more inclined to initially place the blame on a driver problem/incompatibility. Particularly if the Kworld drivers aren't 'Seven native' drivers.

I've just installed a driver from the KWorld website that says it's Windows 7 compatible and now the problem seems specific to only certain channels which I would now put down to the signal, so it looks like you were right.

Thanks for the help, I doubt I would have gone down that route as I installed the driver originally from the disc that came with the tv card and was supposedly compatible.
