Creating tags for movies

Does anyone know how to create tags for avi files and others so that they will be recognized in media center.
Reason for asking is that all my movies come up in the movies section but I would like to be able to sort movies into genres and so on.
The other thing is that media center is putting all my tv recordnigs, movies and video clips in one catagory. Can this be sorted so media center knows where to store them so they are appearing in the right sections like "recorded tv"
Cheers

You probably want to look at some of the Media manager 3rd party addons. Check them out and see what you like. Some of the popular ones are MediaBrowser , YAMM, there are others too if you search
