    Movies crashs.. please help!

    Hi!!

I'm with a problem with my W7 installation... Since i've installed w7 (7057) in my laptop when i'm playing avi files my player (wathever i'm using) crash (image freeze and time not, or time jump all over the avi file, or some times very fast others too slow...). i've just upgraded to 7106 and the problem still happening... =/ with DVDs there is no problem, only with avi files... i've installed other codecs and nothing...

    some help?

    thanks

    Hi xplodman, welcome to SevenForums.

Which codec pack did you install? There are various packs available the best for Windows 7 is shark007 which you can get here Shark007.net - Windows 7 Codecs.

You mentioned that you upgraded, so the problem has migrated to 7106 so it is something to do with what was installed when using 7057.

Before you install the above codec, make sure you uninstall all codec packs that you have previously installed.

    Hope this helps :)

There is no official RC yet (7077 is an RC escrow the best build yet)

So those who scramble to get a 71xx build are getting unstable builds

Those who get the 70xx should have stability.

and you are using a 71xx build or you have major problems then format your disk and use 7000 or 7077 rc .

How can we help you with a known unstable build?

Let's try and concentrate on the issue with the playing of AVI files. If it turns out to be the build that's at fault then we can put him/her in the right direction.

Agreed, 7106 is unstable & i wouldn't use it if you paid me, but let's see what happens

I think I'd try a clean install without codec packs at all.

Shure, but i have the problem since 7057 fresh install... =) Thanks for the help. Orbital Shark, when you install the windows 7 codecs from shark007 autoinstall ask you to uninstall every codecs on your machine. When the RC out (5th may, i hope) i'll try a new fresh install...untill that i'm trying to solve this problem... =/ any idea?

    Sorry for the late reply.

Give shark007 a try, make sure you've still got any codec packs you may have already installed so you can easily install again. It will not uninstall Windows native codecs so it should be completely safe.

    Hope this helps :)

Personally, I'd start by finding out which filter is being used to show the file(s). You can always 'adjust' the filters via graphedit and see which gives you the best performance, then bump the merit of the working filter.

For whatever reason, I'm more likely to blame a directshow filter than the build. When said 'whatever player', does that include VLC which uses it's own filters?
