xbox 360 no longer plays my mkv files

I've been using my 360 to stream my mkv files for the past month or two and everything has been great. A few days ago I get a new home theater sound setup and eager to test it out, so I boot up my 360 and go straight to my saving private ryan mkv and I get an error. I try transformers and zombieland (both worked before) and I get the same error. All other media seems to work fine except mkv files. The error I get is:

    Video Error
Files needed to display video are not installed or are not working correctly. Restart Windows Media Center or restart the computer

I've deleted my libraries from wmc and added them back, I've deleted the 360 as an extender on my computer and added it back, I've reinstalled divx, and used a different codec pack. So far nothing seems to help. The files play perfect on my computer, just not on my 360. I have 2 360's, one in my room and one in the living room, and both are getting the same error.

Now right before all this stopped working there were some system updates for the xbox, but I'm not sure if that did it or not. Any ideas?

    thanks,
    marc

If it's only .mkv container files, then I'd say that would be a good place to start.

It's likely that the latest dashboard update has done something to interfere with .mkv streaming.

Uninstall any codec packs and/or a/v software you've installed since. To be on the safe side, uninstall everything except the latest Divx. As much as I dislike Divx they are the only codec outfit that writes to Windows 7 Media Foundation and as such are the only Matroska filter that will stream to 360. If ANY other legacy codec pack stuff gets in the way you'll have the situation you describe. It'll also happen with a lot of a/v software that installs legacy codecs behind your back.

Us giving away a free Media Foundation based MKV splitter doesn't even help you like us a little?

Basically, our users are reporting that installing the latest DivX Plus Software (at the very least, the DivX Plus Codec Pack) along with AC3filter (Google for it) will get them streaming their MKV files through Media Center Extender on their Xbox 360.

If you need any support with our components, you can either head over the DivX Labs forums (labs.divx.com) or ask away on twitter, @DivXLabs
