    WMC and Video in Win7

I have a new Win7 Home Premium 64 bit laptop

Try as I might, no video files are available to me in WMC. All 26000 of my audio files play just fine. I have tried every sort of procedure under Settings. BTW, No problems in Vista, WMC works perfectly.

All of my files are on an external hard drive.

    What's up with this?

Also, BTW, same problem in WMP12. All my music files are present, none of my video.

Is this some sort of Library problem?

Make sure that WMP is viewing the correct media folder:

Right Click Videos > Manage Video Library

If that's correct, then do this:

Tools > Options > Library > Add video files...

What type of video files do you have? Are they WMP files, .avi files? You may need to install codecs in order to view the video files via WMP/WMC.

Here's a link to a free codec pack:

Free-Codecs.com : Download K-Lite Codec Pack 5.8.3 FULL, K-Lite Codec Pack 5.8.3 STANDARD, K-Lite Codec Pack 5.8.3 BASIC : K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs and related tools

Sorry, I did forget to say that everything scanned into Winamp and RealPlayer perfectly.

Also, I can play file from Windows Explorer "Open With" in both WMC and WMP.

O.K., while fooling with this I got everything to work in WMC.

    So, now what about WMP12?

I really appreciate the help. WMC is really very good, as I learned on my Vista machine.

How did you get everything to work in WMC? If you apply the same method to WMP 12 it may work.

Otherwise, you might want to make sure that WMP 12 has ownership of the file types in question.
