Can't connect 360 to Windows 7

When I try to connect to a Windows Media Center PC, it says "Your console isn't connected to a Windows Media Center PC."

I've allowed the 360 in the network and sharing. I opened the proper ports. I turned off the windows firewall to see if that was it. I don't know what else to do.

Can someone please help me?

Are you trying to run it as a MEdia Center Extender? Or just share files through WMP?

Basically on the xbox, go to "My xbox" and go to the right til you get to "Windows Media Center Extender" Follow all the prompts and you should come up with a code. Don't touch anything and write the number down. THen go to your PC, launch Windows Media Center. Go down to tasks, then select "add extender". Follow all the prompts and when it asks for the code, enter the code you wrote down from the xbox. Assuming you have good network connection, it should finish from there.

I tried that before and doesn't connect. It says it can't find a computer with WMC. I scan for a computer and it finds mine but it can't find a computer with WMC. It should find mine as I have WMC installed. Is there something I need to do in WMC in order for the 360 to find it?

Sounds like the old port forward issue that some routers have trying this. I don't know which router you have, but check this site. Basically you have to forward ports 53, 80, 88, and 3074. This particular page explains how to do this for a certain router, but if you dig around on hte site you can find your routers instructions as well:

When I try the settings for my router, which is a SMC8014WN. I try to put in the port range number but a message comes up and it says:

"Start and end port couldn't be the same for port range setting! Illegal port!"

So what do I do? Do I just use single port?

You need to make 4 seperate port forwards.. individual ports, not port range. There are typically two options (3 actually). Port forwarding, Port range forwarding, and Port triggering.

However, you do not need to forward any ports for your lan. Port forwarding is for wan to lan, not lan to lan.
