Temporary recordings in Windows Media Center

    Hi there,

I have the live TV buffering function turned in in Windows Media Center, so I can pause and skip through stuff I have just watched. I am wondering where this video is stored and how I can watch it.

I would like to save something I have recently watched to my hard drive permanently.

    Thanks

    WMC temp recordings

Go Control Panel/Folder Options/View and make hidden + protected system files visible.

Locate your Recorded TV folder - mine is on my D drive (look in Media Center/Tasks/Settings/TV/Recorder/Recorder Storage if unsure)

In Recorded TV folder locate TempRec folder

    Inside should be TempSBE folder

If MC has run recently there should be some temp.sbf files in TempSBE. On my system these are all suspiciously the same size 0.5GB which I guess is 30mins of buffer.

I have tried opening these files in various apps inc MC to no avail - let me know if you have any sucess.

Finally reset sytem files back to 'hidden'

Thanks. I've found the files. I'll post back if I find a way to use them

The temp files are actually DVR-MS files. Just rename them to .dvr-ms and open and convert them to MPG with TS Converter as you would any .dvr-ms file.

That is spot-on correct advice. Even if no one else will say so, I will. Good job, TechGuru!

    Doesn't work for me?

I've installed TS converter and it will not accept the files.
I was recommended to upgrade to AnyMP4, which I did.
The attributes of the file are not marked hidden. Although I can see it is hidden by changing my Folder options to view it.
I then changed it to Read-only. No luck, then deselected with no selection made, same problem

The.sbf files were renamed to the extention .dvr-ms

for example test.dvr-ms that didn't work also tried .ts and .wtv

Using TS Converter I get an error message 'failed to load file'

Using the upgraded software AnyMP4 I have the same problem.

    Any suggestions?

Irrespective of the file extension, G-Spot and MediaInfo don't recognize those files and VLC won't play them. Ditto VideoRedo (which is designed to edit WMC files).

The dude who says he can play those temp files is talking out of his aerial socket.
