Boxee works, WMC won't for music files

I'm trying to get WMC to recognize my AAC (Mostly Apple Lossless format) audio files, but having no luck. Boxee works great, but for some reason no luck in WMC.
I've tried numerous codecs, workarounds, but no luck. I find it really odd that a small program like Boxee can make this work but WMC has problems.

Anyone know what can be done?

Thanks.

Update-
So here is the weird thing. I can go into a file directly that WMC or WMP doesn't recognize, double click on it and I can still play it with the little media pop-up box.
Not sure why WMC can't recognize a file, but Windows itself can.

Sorry if I sound a little noobish, it's just that I am brand new to Windows 7 (coming from XP).

If it does play, Then you should be able to right click, open with, and choose a default player for it.

I wish I could say that worked, but it didn't. I right-clicked like you said, chose add to media player list, but it still won't show up. These are files that were burned straight from CD's I own, so I'm really puzzled why I'm having these problems.

OK, when you right click choose open with, then go to choose default, and you'll get this window, choose windows media player and check the box to always use the selected player to open these file types, and press ok.
