MP4 video (mpeg4). Odd... it works most of the time... but, once in a while it crashes on this file type. The funny thing is windows 7 Media player can't recover. I have to restart the OS. Killing the process does not help. I like win7 and really want to avoid the Mac... but, stuff like this kills me. Sorry to rant. And, tks for responding quickly.
Hmm, that is indeed odd. As a quick fix I suggest you get VLC and make that the default player for MP4. Tracking the WMP problem will probably not be easy. My first suspicion would be that some other process interferes at times with WMP. The question is which one. The WUDFHost.exe would be one of my suspects. I sometimes stop the "Windows Driver Foundation" service for that reason. But whether that is your problem remains to be seen.
Is this problem repeatable with the same video file? Does this occur after using your PC for various tasks, or right after a start up? Are the offending videos produced by you or someone else?
My experience with producing MP4 videos has been very good. My source is usually my Panasonic AVCHD camcorder or 720P animation frames I render out. I use Avid Media Composer 3 at work and EDIUS Neo 2.5 at home to edit and produce 720P MP4 videos, and have never experienced a crash in producing or playing them later in XP or Windows 7. The production and playing of MP4 video takes a lot of CPU and GPU horsepower, as well as seriously exercising the video driver in the machine. How stable is your video system? Do you have the most recent video driver installed? One reason I've had such good luck is that I rely on modern nVidia GPU hardware for production and playing. What are you using?
Bye.
tks... good advice... will check my video driver... i have a good card.... tks for responding.
