Office 2010 Professional Trial on Windows 7 - ose.exe missing

    Hi,

I run windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. I previously had office 2010 beta which i did a complete clean uninstall and removed registries. Office 2010 Professional was downloaded from the MS Office website and so was the key.

But when i tried installing Office 2010 professional plus trial i got an error - Error attaching to OSE, error 0x00000000.

i was asked to check whether ose.exe was running. For some odd reason i am unable to find OSE in services.exe.

I understand its supposed to be in "\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Source Engine\" , but there is no folder called "source engine" in the Microsoft Shared folder. I did a complete search for ose.exe and source engine folder in hidden and system folders but unable to find it.

Please advice. I dont have an installation cd. I downloaded office 2010 from the website link given above. Also i dont have any virus on my system which could have corrupted or deleted ose.

    Thanks.

You could try downloading the file again from microsoft. It is possible your download was corrupted by something or other.

    Hi,
I have downloaded multiple versions of office 2010 and all have the same error.
Forgive my lack of knowledge, but i just wanted to check if the folder "source engine" and the file "ose.exe", do they both exist only if ms office already exists on the system?
I can post a detailed report on my overall problem if required.

    Thank you,
    Eapen

Do you have a service called Office Source Engine? If yes, set it to automatic and start it.

Also, if the downloaded office is in iso form, try extracting the files to a folder, then try to locate the file ose.exe. If you can find it, copy to the folder its missing from.

This could be related to a bad beta uninstall. Check this link.

    Hi Bill,

Thanks for your reply. There is no "Office Source Engine" running in the services. Also, i downloaded it as an exe file from Microsoft.com so am unable to extract ose.exe file.
Also, i have used all the fixes with the same no result.
I shall paste below a summary of my problems. Even though the "key" error is not coming now, im still getting the unable to attach to ose error.
    ===================================================================

I run windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. I previously had office 2010 beta which i did a complete clean uninstall. Office 2010 Professional was downloaded from the MS Office website and so was the key.

But when i tried installing Office 2010 professional plus trial i initially got an error - Error attaching to OSE, error 0x00000000. DUring this time i never got a product key error notification.

But i did the following clean ups mentioned bellow, after which i got the error "Error 25004. The product key you entered cannot be used on this machine". After this error automatic roll backs happened. Post which i have again done all the details mentioned below, but i still get the same error.

Before giving feedback please note what all i have done:

    - downloaded all the fixes from microsoft site as recommended and removed all traces of office if any - ran all the "fixit" versions

    - downloaded and cleaned all the registries manually and through various registry cleaner options and the cleaner from the microsoft site

    - there are no Office registries left in the regedit
    - all files on Office have been deleted, i.e from program folder, temp, help, etc - ran Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
    - register and unregister the windows installer service
    - there is no Rgstrtn.lck file which needs to be deleted
    - redownlaoded the program, ran as administrator, and tried again, same error
    - downloaded home and student version but still same error - tried installing with only "system services" and only Microsoft files starting up option in msconfig
    - i checked the error log in the temp folder and this was the last error report before roll back "Error attaching to OSE, error 0x00000000
    Stopping running ose"
    - this is the not the first time im trying to enter the same key as all the first times failed and still trying.

I have gone through most of the recommendations in this website , but nothing has worked. Please let me know what more information you need.

    Thank you,
      My Computer
