Want to transfer from USB drive so it is the default

    Hello,

    > I have a USB drive (G) on my Windows 7 computer that is listed as G: Mary References
    > I have Microsoft Word on my Windows 7 computer
    > When I open Microsoft Word and click open, the default C: My Documents comes up so that I can open the program up and select from files (there are none in there presently)
    > Is there a way to transfer the files on my USB drive G: Mary References to the C: drive on my computer, so that when I open Word, the items come up to select from rather than the empty My Documents?
    > I do not want the USB drive on the computer, but only want to transfer these files so I can select from those contents when I open Microsoft Word.

    Help please.

Hi Dakka4u, and welcome to the forum. I believe you can simply go into Windows Explorer, open your USB drive to the files/folders you want to transfer, and either: 1. Cut and Paste them into My Documents on the C:\ drive, or 2. if you wish to retain them on the USB drive as well as have them in My Documents, then Copy and Paste them - so they will be available (as a backup) in the 2nd location. You can remove the USB drive from the computer at any time after the files/folders are transferred.

    Does this answer your question?

Which version of Word do you have? For instance in Word 2010 you can change the default file / save location from File menu > Options to always look for files and save in your USB drive:

Want to transfer from USB drive so it is the default-word_default_file_location.png
