Windows 7: Office "help" and ink problem

Office "help" and ink problem

I've run into an issue with Office 2010 whereby whenever I click the help icon on the top right of the ribbon (or press F1), all Office programs start the "Configuration Process" which runs for a few minutes, asks me to restart (!) and then when I say no, tells me that no help topics match my request (!!). Clicking yes to the restart request reboots the machine but has no effect on the problem.

This "Configuration Process" also runs for several minutes whenever I open a document (Word or PowerPoint) that has ink annotations in it. The difference in this case is that eventually the document opens successfully (no restart request), and as long as I don't close the program, opening other documents with ink annotations happens normally.

I've re-installed Office, got all updates, tried running a repair, to no avail. I'm running Win7 64-bit OS but 32-bit Office 2010 Home. Any ideas?

Take a look through the thread in this link - someone with same problem as you managed to resolve it by re-installing Office 2010 over the top of the current install:
Office 2010 - Configuration progress

Quote from one of the posts:

It had a option called 'Customize' and one of them was: "Delete all the programs related to office" Or something like that...
There are other comments in there too. :)

I don't seem to have that option when installing. Also, I don't quite get what the poster means when they say installing "over the top" - if Office is installed already, all you can do is repair, remove, add/remove features etc.
