receiving Office 2007 updates but have got Office 2010 installed

    Hi everyone,

When I first got my computer (Windows 7 Home Premium SP1), it had a preinstalled trial version of Microsoft Office 2007. I removed it via the control panel (Programs and Features) and installed Office 2010. However, I still get Office 2007 updates via Windows Update. They even installed successfully.
There are no Office 2007 components listed under Programs and Features.

Why am I getting Office 2007 updates although I've got only Office 2010?...

In other words: Office 2007 did not uninstall cleanly. I thought as much ;-)
Now, if I run that fix you indicated, will it remove/affect my Office 2010 (or do I have to remove Office 2010), and what will happen to the Windows Update stuff which has already been downloaded and installed for Office 2007? As I mentioned before - those updates actually installed successfully...Lol!...

It should remove ALL traces of 2007 without affecting 2010. To check the updates situation, view your updates history. If any 2007 updates are still there you could manually uninstall them.

If it does possibly affect 2010 you can repair the install through the Programs and Features.

    Thanks, Irene and fimble.
I'll create a system restore point beforehand, just in case...nerve-racking stuff for me, corrective uninstallation procedures ;-D

Okay, I ran the Fixit Tool. I don't think it found anything, though...the black box which popped up while the script ran seemed to indicate that it could not find any Office 2007 entries...And the updates for Office 2007 which have been installed so far via Windows Update are still displayed in the update history. So I guess that if more updates for Office 2007 come along, then I'll just have to hide them...Office 2010 seems to be working fine, though...does not seem to have been affected by the tool. Thanks for your help

    This needs confirming, but:
    Office 2010 is v14.0
    Office 2007 is v 12.0
Might be worth searching your registry (if confident enough) and deleting all references to v12.0. It's what I would do, but (in the words of my Grandson) "I'm not scared".

Nope - those who don't know anything about the registry should never fiddle around with it. I have no idea about the registry. Chances are that if I fumble around with something I have no idea about, I'll end up with a brick

Hi, I can confirm that it has nothing to do with having Office 2007 on your system. I am looking at a Dell Optiplex with Windows 7 Enterprise that has Office 2010 on it. It has never had Office 2007 installed on it. However, Microsoft Update keeps offering updates for Office 2007. I suppose it is possible that 2010 & 2007 share DLLs or libraries, but the way the updates are labeled is confusing and misleading, and obviously leads to users not installing them. They are marked as "optional" but "important."

Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 (KB951550)
Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB2288621)
Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB972581)
Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB974234)
The 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 2 (SP2)
Update for Microsoft Office 2007 System (KB2539530)
Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB2284654)
Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB967642)

I looked at the all the links in the descriptions of these updates, but I see no explanation as to why these are showing up on a system that never had Office 2007. I'm assuming that I should install them, but I would like to know WHY before I do.

Whoops, sorry, they're not marked as "optional," but "important."

Of the 8 Windows 7 machines that I work with, (Ultimate, Home Premium, x86 and x64) all with Office 2010, none has been offered a Office 2007 update from Windows Update.

Do you have Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack, Web Components, Viewers etc installed?
