    Word.doc on the Desktop

I like to have a Word.doc (2003) on my desktop that I can use as a scratch pad.
Every time I open the doc .. Edit it and Save it … It relocates itself on my desktop.
Anyone know a way to stop this ?? … I what it to stay where I put it.

I've updated to the M$ rtm version of W7 x64 .. And the problem is still there.
ANY Office 2003 file relocates itself on the desktop when Edited/Saved.

Anyone know if this W7 annoyance is restricted to Office 2003 files ..
Or does it also exist for the newer versions of Office ???

Are you saving as or just saving? If the latter sounds like you have your default save location set to the desktop. Check your default save location.

Save or Save as ... But Save is what's bugging me.
I normally have an xls and a doc file on my desktop .. where I use them.
When I Save an edit .. I want it to stay where is was originally located.
I don't want to have to chase it down and drag it back where I had it every time.

If it's a shortcut, it could be that Word doesn't know where the 'Working Directory' for the file is.. Edit the shortcut's properties and in the 'Start In' text box, put the path to where the .doc file is actually saved on your hard-drive.

Not A Shortcut .. The xls or doc file.
Seems like it thinks it's a new file and moves it.

    I've removed 2003 and installed Office 2007.
Looks like I've got to learn what little I knew .. all over again.
xlsx and docx files stay where I put them ... doc and xls files still get relocated.
Now I have to figure out what's the difference in the file types ???

    Desksoft Windowmanager

I bit the bullet, and paid 10 USD for a small program from Desksoft - WindowManager. Been using it since beta - still using it with RTM...

    Cheers,
