Diary,lists,password protected

Hi Folks, thank you in advance for your patience!!
I have win home premium x64.
I cannot for the life of me, find a way to,
do a diary
write lists, and use a password to acess them.
Do I have to upgrade?

You can use EFS (Encrypting File System). However, you would need to upgrade to Professional or Ultimate.

Encrypting File System (EFS) is a feature of Windows that you can use to store information on your hard disk in an encrypted format. Encryption is the strongest protection that Windows provides to help you keep your information secure.



Some key features of EFS:

• Encrypting is simple; just select a check box in the file or folder's properties to turn it on.
  You have control over who can read the files.
  Files are encrypted when you close them, but are automatically ready to use when you open them.
• If you change your mind about encrypting a file, clear the check box in the file's properties.

Note

• EFS is not fully supported on Windows 7 Starter, Windows 7 Home Basic, and Windows 7 Home Premium. For those editions of Windows, if you have the encryption key or certificate, you can do the following:
  
  • Decrypt files by running Cipher.exe in the Command Prompt window (advanced users)
    Modify an encrypted file
    Copy an encrypted file as decrypted to a hard disk on your computer
  • Import EFS certificates and keys
  • Back up EFS certificates and keys by running Cipher.exe in the Command Prompt window (advanced users)

You posted in Microsoft Office section.
Are you then using MS Word for diary ?

If yes, please read on....
Say you are working on MS Word, as you are done , click MS Logo at top left > Save As > at the bottom, click Tools > click General Options > enter password > OK

Your diary will require password to open from then on.

Hi there, sorry about the confusion on my part. No, windows7 home premium, from what I can See has only Npte Pad to write what I want. Please correct me if i am wrong. I know it's basic but this Win 7 has me quite confused in respect to writing a diary, or a list of my meds. etc. XP Pro was a blast. maybe I have to upgrade ?
