Outlook has a file download box that will not go away.,please help.

I have a file download box that opens up everytime i open my outlook 2010 program. I received a photo from a friend via email the other day and due to its upload time, i stopped it and opened the pic another way.

Apparently i interrupted the file download at a crucial point or something because ever since that time i have this file download box that opens up windows internet explorer before it lets me go into outlook mail inbox.

I have deleted cache, did a total restore to an earlier date and still have no idea how to prevent this from happening.

    Thanks for any solid help,

    Chris

Hi Chris, welcome to the forum.

    Is your ISP web based?
If so, I wondered if it might help to remove/delete it from your inbox on there...

Thanks Irene, i'll be perfectly honest with you, the only reason i joined was so that i could possibly find a way to have this issue resolved. It is driving me absolutely crazy.

As far as your suggestion, that was a great idea and i tried it. However this did not provide any help. There wasn't even any signs of the message that this file download was associated with located there due to my having erased all messages from outlook earlier.

I am wondering if perhaps the service techs at Century Link might be able to assist me tomorrow when they are open. I understand Outlook doesn't have anything to do with them but they did help me initiate and setup my outlook to be synced with they their servers back when. This just might be something they could possibly assist me with, not sure, all i know is microsoft wants to charge to assist. go figure.

    thanks,

    Chris

Another thought - is your anti-virus program still trying to scan it? Maybe disable it temporarily and restart Outlook.

You could try running the Inbox Repair Tool (this link also contains a Microsoft Fix-it):

I have tried all of the Repair tools provided, that i could find, at microsoft.com. None corrected the issue and all gave the message that no issue was found. I don't believe it has anything to do with the anti virus, it has always checked my system without any issues and i know exactly when this issue began.

I am just not familiar with the 'why?' it remains.

It all began after i attempted to stop a file from downloading due to being able to open same via a quicker method. After i did that this box popped up stating would i rather save, cancel or view. I struck cancel, to now avail.

At present the "File Download" box still opens up every-time that i open Microsoft Outlook and attempt to enter my inbox. The box will not allow you to cancel, well you can strike the 'cancel' button however this download file box forces internet explorer to open its browser in an effort to open this before mentioned file that i erased and it is no longer.

    Weird and 100% pure frustration

I hate it when crap doesn't work properly and i haven't the means to repair it although i know that i could, given the appropriate instruction.

You know? I just cannot seem to understand why something that is as complex as a computer operating system doesn't come with any type of service available outside of having to pay someone at microsoft if you initiate a service form. Unbelievable.

This irritates me to no end, they develop this complex software - throw it on the market and after you pay your $1000.00+ for the neatly bundled plastic housing, there is no one around to throw the life ring.

HEck, there is even customer service for items that are 1/100 of the price that one pays for a computer without having to pay for the tech service.

    ANyway,...

i downloaded that unblocker add on however it doesn't help remove the issue. It still remains. I am going to keep the unblock button there on outlook now, it integrated a button right up there on the toolbar in outlook.

    may need that sometime.

    thanks, issue still stands. hughhh

OH MY GOD! That advice provided at that link repaired the issue.

I cannot hardly believe it, after countless hours last night of searching and hunting online to obtain an answer to repair this annoying issue, i awoke this morning to find this answer in my email.

I appreciate it so very, very much Irene. I had tried almost all avenues of approach in regards to these types of resets - i thought, but obviously not, for this one here fixed the problem.

Irene you are the greatest for taking the time to work alongside of me until we found a solution and for that i am so appreciative.

I have opened and closed Microsoft Outlook 2010 now multiple times and no annoying "Download File" box is popping up forcing Internet Explorer open anymore. Whooo-Hoooo!

    (for future searchers)

Microsoft Outlook 2010 Download File Box window opens up or pops up every time i open outlook software and access my inbox. This Download File box window forces or causes the internet explorer web browser to open in an effort to look for a deleted file that no longer exists with a string of text that is supposed to be located in an internet temporary file folder.

To repair the issue of a download file box from opening in your Microsoft outlook 2010 every time inbox is accessed change all of your settings at Internet Options / Programs back to Microsoft Defaults and restart your computer.

This repaired my issue involving same.

    Chris

Thanks again Irene so very much.
