    Excel and Unique sorting

Excel 2010. Trying to do an "unique" sort (as in data/sort/advanced/unique) for a simple data set of 3 columns and 4 rows. i.e. Sort the data on the first column but leave only the first instance of the name.

An example perhaps: 3 columns 4 rows

    Before:
    Jones | Bob | Fl
    Smith | Joe | MA
    Jones | Bob | Tx
    Smith | Bill | MN

    AFter:
    Jones | Bob | FL
    Smith | Joe | MA

    Appreciate any suggestions.

After a week trying to solve this problem it was pretty simple. I have to import about 1000 rows of data per week, and have been sorting then hiding the duplicates, a real pain. But there in front of me was the command "remove duplicates" It does what I wanted, remove duplicate rows and gives you the option of what column to select for the removal to be performed.

Thanks for the thumbs up, so just had to read your System Specs. I am impressed with your internet speed "DSL 100.0Mbps ". Do you have a direct connect with Penn State?:)
