Outlook '07 category delete

I've read

How categories and calendar labels from earlier versions are updated for Office Outlook 2007 - Outlook - Office.com

and not found an answer.

I have a large number of legacy categories from prior versions that are no longer useful. I clicked on the associated categories and deleted.

Two results do not seem logical:

1. Although the associated color for the deleted category is removed, the category name remains.

2. Go to a contact form and the category is still associated, absent color (I know I can remove the category by right clicking but that implies manually removing categories throughout hundreds of contacts).

Is there not a true category delete?

Thanks, but again, as with my article, the referenced deals with colors not (batch) delete of category names both from the main listing and those previously assigned to forms.
