Office 2010 File tab will not open

Running Office 2010 and when in excel the File tab at the top will not let me click on it to save the document or print. I have to type ctrl P to get to that screen. Also in Outlook I can't click on the print tab now. Is there a fix for this?

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-Bit

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

You may have a corrupted Office installation so insert your Office DVD and choose the Repair option.

Failing that, you could run an anti-virus scan, just in case. Malwarebytes is an excellent tool for this.

I will give it a try. I ran malwarebytes already thinking the same thing. Thanks

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-Bit

You're welcome.

If the scan doesn't show anything and the repair option doesn't cure the problem, you might want to consider uninstalling Office, reboot your computer, and then re-install it.

If you can't uninstall it, Microsoft have released a fix for that particular issue.

Try a repair to Office 2010:
Repair or remove Office 2010 - Project -

Repair your Office 2010 programs

Repair your Office 2010 programs by doing the following:
  1. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
  2. Click Programs and Features.
  3. Click the Office 2010 program that you want to repair, then click Change.
  4. Click Repair, then click Continue. You might need to restart your computer after the repair is complete.

I have done some digging into this problem on my PC having had no success at fixing it with the solutions previously offered.

I tried 1 by 1 removing workbooks from by XLSTART and Excel folders and found that if I deleted the Excel14.xlb file that I found in both the folders named that the File Tab problem was fixed. Also Excel automatically created a new Excel14.xlb file in the Excel folder and my Excel is now working fine.

So I deduce from this that the Excel14.xlb file had got corrupted and was causing the problem.

Hope this helps someone else.
