    MS Word Likes to Crash

It's the only Office 2007 app that does this for me, but it crashes a lot. Oddly enough I have a suspicion about it, but I'll post about that later.

Just be advised that Word 2007 crashes a lot (of course as I'm writing a 7 page essay).

Try using Open Office, it's just as good as Office and it's free and doesn't crash.

This is more of a head ups to people. I use OpenOffice most of the time for word processing anyway.

I have had the same problem as well, MS Word 2007 crashes whether I am saving a document or closing one. It happens WAY too often, I tried several workarounds including disabling some of my add-ons. Finally I did what most people would do and uninstalled the entire Office 2007 suite, after reinstalling MS Word worked without any hickups. It wasn't until i used MSU to reinstall the updates that Word crashed once again. This has led me to believe that it is one of the 20 thousand updates (including SP 1) that could be the cause. I am going to try uninstalling updates one by one until i find out which one it is.

OK... well that was quick and painless. The problem is with security update KB951550

uninstalling this update will make MS Word 2007 work without any crashes (so far). I have tested it about 20 times and it seems that this has done the job.

Now to find out if KB951550 is something i can't live without

    Hope this helps!

I removed the entire registry key (HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data) and the problem is now resolved.

When Word is started it will rebuild the key automatically.

Really? I've only had Word crash once, but other than that it works flawlessly with Se7en.

I found that Word 2007 crashed in beta 7000 build a few times so you might want to upgrade to RC

I am using the RC and was crashing until I deleted the registry key mentioned in my previous post.

I think its not 7 related, my fathers computer has the same error while its running on vista.
I don't have any problems with it btw.
