Windows 7: outlook 2010 won't open and no error message appears

Windows 7 / Windows 8.1

I had a recent issue with my Outlook and the Search feature. After attempting to adjust my Index settings to no avail, I simply put my Disc in and had it Repair the install. No problems since. Always keep those discs handy!

outlook 2010 won't open

i have the same problem. i realize that re-installing would solve, but that doesn't help learn how to troubleshoot. i have had O2K10 running on my pc for over a year, with no problems. now i am having the EXACT same problem as the author here. the temp solution for me was this:
- open task manager and you will see OUTLOOK.EXE running under PROCESSES as many times as you have clicked on the outlook icon to start the app.
- ONE of the processes should show a HIGHER memory utilization than the others.
- the instance that shows the HIGHEST memory utilization is most likely the one that is STILL running (ie....never really shut down properly).
- on EACH instance of outlook.exe and then click on END PROCESS.........leaving the HIGHEST memory instance until LAST. this should launch outlook for you.
- so, it appears, technically, that the problem really is NOT that outlook won't OPEN, but rather, that it never really CLOSED properly and is still running in the background. this would explain why, when in this state, NOTHING happens when you click on the outlook icon (except that it will ADD an instance to the processes tab under Task Manager).
- still not sure how to fully REPAIR this issue, or why it happened. but, it appears that the problem can be worked-around temporarily, short of RE-INSTALLING outlook.
- still trying to determine root cause.....................
