Word 2010 "Restrict Formatting" Glitch?

In Word 2010, when I restrict formatting and allow editing only in certain areas of a document, it appears that while a user is in an allowed area they also have access to “change paragraph spacing” under "change styles.” While there, they can go to "custom paragraph spacing" and reformat the entire document, changing the default formatting.

This makes no sense to me. Shouldn’t the option to "change paragraph spacing" be restricted as well? Or am I missing something?

Thanks for your input, but no, my "problem" is NOT solved. IMHO, you've provided a work-around, not a fix.

Yes, deleting the use of ALL styles in the document does seem to prevent the user from making the formatting changes I described. However not being able to use any styles in the original document IS a problem for me, and this is NOT how it worked in 2007 where a styled document with restricted formatting COULD be sent to a user for input without issue.

I still maintain that the "Paragraph Spacing" option should be inactivated when restricting formatting.

No matter what styles are allowed elsewhere in the document, when designating a specific allowable editing area, it makes no sense to me that the user is able to affect other areas.

I take it back. Your work-around doesn't work. Even after clicking "yes" and removing the styles as you suggest, it seems that the user is still able to select paragraph spacing and reformat the document.

Give it a try. Make sure to have the insertion point in an editable region of the protected document.

I think it's only "absolutely logical behavior" to someone who has not actually used this feature successfully in a previous version of the software.

Read the description in the "Restrict Formatting" pane. As indicated, the exceptions option can be used to allow editing in parts of the document, not necessarily to allow others to edit the entire file. (That could easily be handled with passwords.)

What does "select parts of the document" mean to you, and how would YOU use that feature?

I appreciate your input, but if you have no personal experience using the Restrict Formatting option, or if you can't see the logic in attempting to protect certain parts of a document, let's just agree to disagree. I am hoping that someone else who is more familiar with this feature will chime in.
