How to install Office 2010 InfoPath?

My system is Win7-64 with Office 2010 64-bit version installed and running OK. I installed Office 2010 using the standard Setup routine and opted to install only Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. After completing the installation I deleted the huge MSOCache folder the installation left behind on my boot drive because my C: is a 64GB SSD and I need all the free space on it I can get.

Now I need to install InfoPath but cannot do it. I have the original Office 2010 CD but all of the Setup programs on it fail - including the one in the InfoPath folder. I downloaded the "trial" Office2010 Setup routine (15.7 MB) but that fails also. I tried "Change" from the Control Panel INstalled Programs list but that does nothing.

Is there any way to get InfoPath installed without having to completely de-install Office 2010 and re-install it?

Sorry, no joy! As I said in my original post, all of the Setup programs on the Office 2010 CD fail. This includes the ones in both the X86/InfoPath.en-us and X64/InfoPath.en-us folders. These installers are actually MSI files but when I try the Install option they pop up a window for a very short time (half second or so) that I think says something about extracting install files. Then they end and nothing happens.

The Setup.exe programs in the disk's root directory and in the x64 and x86 folders all end with the standard "Setup has stopped working" message with details saying the error is in Office12Setup.

Attached is the screenshot requested.

I am not aware of any other change I made to the Office installation other than removing MSOCache.

Actually there is one thing that might be affecting this: Before I installed Office 2010 I had Office 2007 installed. And before that I had Office 2003 (I think) installed. At any rate, I also had Expression Web Ver. 2 installed. When I tried installing Office 2010 initially the install failed for obscure (of course) reasons and I ended up de-installing Office 2007, including the OFClean utility. Office 2010 would still not install so I deinstalled Expression Web 2.

That allowed Office 2010 to get installed. I then deleted the 2010 MSOCache and reinstalled Expression Web 2. It may be that Expression Web 2 has put some stuff in the registry associated with an old version of Office the the 2010 Setup does not like. All this is just a guess of course.

Expression Web 2 is the likely suspect. It has been reported that EW2 and Office 2010 don't get along (try the Microsoft Express Forums Microsoft Expression Forums and see if anyone there can help). From what I saw, Officw 2007 seemed to work with EW2 but don't hold me to it!

Yes, I am aware. I regularly review the EW forum. It is difficult to get EW2 installed and I am not going to repeat that effort . Fortunately I was able to get InfoPath installed on my laptop (which does not have EW2) so that has resolved my problem for the moment.

I use EW2 but dislike it sufficiently to prevent me from paying for the current version (which is likely to be replaced sometime soon anyway. But that's a different matter.)

I guess I will have to add the complexities of Office installs to my list of Windows fundamental design problems: DLL Hell, WinSXS, Registry pollution.
